I was worried my girls may not like today’s character because he was a bad guy. We met King Herod today stuffing his face with chocolate and not eating his beautiful dinner. While King Herod was awful we emphasized how God still sent his son Jesus, for Herod, just the same.
I wanted them to know all the aspects of the biblical Nativity story and while at this age I didn’t explicitly say that he had babies murdered I did say that he was selfish and that he thought Christmas and life was all about him. I felt it was age appropriate and in years to come we could elaborate on just how pyscho King Herod was as a ruler.
Doing our best to make our grumpiest faces, just like Herod, made us laugh hysterically while we ate dinner and tried to top each others scowls.
We read the lesson for today and it was nice to see my girls eating dinner without begging for sugar cookies or complaining. We talked about how grand God’s love is for us and my littlest mastered the duck face so that was awesome too!
Very Merrily,
Ashleigh Harris
